How to safely dispose of pet waste

Follow these tips and recommendations on proper pet waste disposal to keep you and your pets safe from harmful bacteria. Melanie Walsh. REPORTER.

As the snow melts, you may wonder what to do with your pet’s animal waste.

Also, you may have soiled newspaper or kitty litter waiting for disposal.

Fortunately, on April 13, you can take your pet’s waste products to one of the Municipality’s two collections sites.

Drop-off your double-bagged waste at the Casman Centre parking lot or the Waterways Dog Park by the boat launch.

Both centres will be in service from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What can I bring?

As stated previously, double-bagging waste is important.

It keeps you, residents, and staff healthy and safe from harmful bacteria.

Also, the receptacles aren’t designed for large amounts of animal waste.

Bring animal waste, litter, soiled newspaper and wood chips, and other products in easy-to-maintain double bags.

Staff won’t accept waste in open-top bins or containers, because it’s really difficult to manage and unsanitary.

Is there a limit?

This collection is a residential program.

Smaller volumes of animal waste are easier and safer to manage.

Remember, the municipal landfill will take your waste provided it’s properly packaged.

Located a short drive south on Highway 63, it’s open all year.
