45 Albertans required hospitalization, including five in intensive care.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, said she found encouragement over the first phase of the Alberta Relaunch.

She said Albertans can find satisfaction with the overall response to the public health measures.

Hinshaw said Alberta scheduled the opening of the second stage on June 19, 2020.

She also noted improvements in the supply chain for personal protective equipment (PPE), granting more options to businesses in the province.

The province will focus on providing PPE to organizations in critical need that are at the highest risk of COVID-19 exposure.

These groups include hospital workers, first responders, and workers in public or privately-funded homeless shelters, long-term care facilities, and disability agencies.

Beginning July 1, Hinshaw said businesses and non-Alberta Health Services (AHS) organizations must access PPE directly through suppliers.

Groups that received or submitted a request for PPE from the province or AHS may continue accessing supplied until June 30.

These requests are subject to availability and a fee.
