Chief medical officer of health, Dr Deena Hinshaw said family gatherings appear to be a source for new cases of COVID-19.

She encouraged safe gatherings saying young people are more likely to unknowingly pass the infection to others.

When asked about the response from Alberta teachers, Hinshaw said many volunteered for testing.
