Mayor and councillors will look at a recommendation to change the name of “Thickwood Park” to “The Jeremy Snook Memorial Park”

The move follows a recommendation from the Community Identification Committee (CIC).

The CIC received the renaming request on Mar. 3, 2022.

“The name was proposed in the memory of Jeremy Snook, who passed away from cancer in 2013 at the age of 19. The park already has significance to the Snook family, who is currently maintaining a trail that runs through it.”

Following discussions, the CIC decided to forward the proposal to Council.

Family and friends described Jeremy, who was raised in Fort McMurray, as passionate for the outdoors, in particular Thickwood Park.

“The Snook family’s commitment to maintaining the trail amenities in this local park reflect and celebrate Jeremy’s passions and interests, and the proposed renaming offers greater recognition of the memory of their son.”

Jeremy Snook’s legacy continues to live on in Fort McMurray.

In 2020, the Northern Lights Health Foundation named their Palliative Care Suites at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre after Jeremy Snook.
