The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is, once again, looking for a new City Manager.

In a release, RMWB Council said it was parting ways with Paul Thorkelsson as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) following a special council meeting on July 4, 2023.

This announcement comes before the Summer Recess Period.

As the meeting was not held in public, the results of a vote are not known at this time.

Mayor Sandy Bowman issued a statement thanking Thorkelsson for his time with the Municipality.

“As Council begins recruitment for a new CAO and during this transition, I have every confidence in the team at the Municipality to continue providing the services, projects and programs we collectively need to move the region forward.”

Thorkelsson first assumed the role as CAO in August 2022, replacing Jamie Doyle, who left for a similar role in Nova Scotia in 2021.

Among his notable achievements, the RMWB was named one of Alberta’s Top 75 employers in 2023 by Mediacorp Canada Inc.
