OHV users sought by Wood Buffalo RCMP

Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking the public’s help with identifying at least three suspects spotted fleeing from police in Fort McMurray.

In a statement, on July 8, 2023, at 5:40 pm, police said officers found three were seen driving three off-highway vehicles (OHV) southbound along Gregoire Drive.

None of the suspects wore helmets.

“When RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the OHV drivers, they failed to stop for police and fled into the nearby community. Police did not pursue the OHVs at that time.”

Later, at 6:55 p.m., RCMP spotted the same three OHVs on King Street, heading east at the intersection of Franklin Ave.

“As police approached the three OHVs, the three suspects fled through a red light, with one rider nearly losing control of the OHV as he fled.”

RCMP say such vehicles are not allowed to be driven on area highways within the urban service area.

Photos have been provided of two of the suspects, who were apparently driving dirt bikes.

Wood Buffalo RCMP added the three suspects could face several charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

Anyone with information about this incident or know the identity of the suspects involved is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
