Jeff Callaway drops out of UCP leadership race, endorses Kenney

Callaway says Kenney's ideas on encouraging grassroots participation and improving the economy resonate with him.

The race to be the leader of Alberta’s United Conservative Party is now down to three candidates.

Former Wildrose party president Jeff Callaway has quit the race to endorse fellow candidate and former federal cabinet minister Jason Kenney.

Callaway says Kenney’s ideas on encouraging grassroots participation and improving the economy resonate with him.

He says concerns over former Wildrose leader Brian Jean, who is also running for the top job, played into his decision.

Callaway says Jean has a top-down management style and has lost touch with the grassroots.

The other remaining candidate is Doug Schweitzer.

The leader will be picked on Oct. 28.
