I have a 2003 GMC sierra, 4X4 extended cab. My driver window rolls up and down extremely slow and it sometimes wont even move at all when it’s cold out. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Also, my horn likes to honk by itself when I turn the wheel, (mostly during the cold weather as well), and I have had it in the shop several times but they never fix it right.
Any help would be appreciated. thanks
August 23, 2009 at 8:48 pm #36221Owned a 96 F150, got rid of it after 2.5 years when I had transmission issues.
Owned a 98 Dodge Dakota, got rid of it after 2 yrs when I had engine / transfer case issues.
Owned a 01 Chev Silverado, great truck, great on-road ride, but at end of 3 year lease it shook and rattled like a 15 year old pickup. Also had lots of issues with small electrical things that were fixed under warranty, but a pain. Drivetrain was a bit old-school tech wise and had a ton of slack in it…every time I took was on/off the gas it would clunk! Never caused a problem but down the road….
Own an 03 4Runner, have done nothing but change the oil in 6 years.
Own an 09 Tundra as of yesterday. Drivetrain is smooth although there is an ever so slight squeak in the dash. Looked hard at an F150 since they’re giving them away but I drive one for work.
August 23, 2009 at 10:48 pm #36223owned a 92 Ford F150 last year when i got here had 130 k on it nothing only junk, maybe because its a ford. Then bought an 05 ram 1500 rumble bee, best truck i ever had no problems at all had it for about 9 months. Now i got an 05 Ram 2500 Power wagon and this is the best truck ever. Dodge all the way for me.

HATE fords and refuse to even fix them for money. Dodge or GM all the way. Would have bought a chevy but the bodies on the new trucks are cheap and UGLY.

September 10, 2009 at 6:08 am #36231Ah, get a Tundra TRD with the supercharger. I am sure you can figure out something to do with 500hp.
September 10, 2009 at 2:18 pm #36233Personal experience with Toyota was two lemons in a row, an ’89 V6 pickup and a ’91 SR5. The 89 threw a connecting rod at less than 30,000 KM. Had to wait over a month to get it back from the shop but it never ran right after that. Got rid of it for a new 91 SR5 also with the 3.0 V6. The engine in this one was good but it was in the shop every few months for front end work. I think something was out of alignment or bent from factory but they kept replacing ball joints, A arm bushings and two A arms. The truck looked like new, I never took it off-road. I decided to go back to Ford and they have been quite reliable for me.
I don’t knock the Toyota product, I had two lemons in a row, that can happen with any manufacturer but my service was horrible. A new truck that spends half of it’s first year in the shop is unacceptable. Arguing that there is nothing wrong even though it is obvious that there is something very wrong doesn’t instill confidence in the product or the dealership. As long as I live in McMurray I won’t drive a Toyota.
September 11, 2009 at 1:55 am #36235Totally agree with you Holly on toyota service, particularly in this town. Every dealership I’ve ever dealt with have had that Toyota arrogance!! Only consolation is I don’t have to go there for service very much because I’ve had reliable vehicles.
Here’s how I look at vehicle reliability, at least around trucks. Every manufacturer makes good vehicles however here is the difference. 90% of Toyota’s will go 300k, 5% die at 50k and 5% go 500k, whereas 50% of D3 will fall apart after 100k, 25% will last 200k and 25% go 500k. If you’re lucky enough to get the 1 in 4 that will last forever you’re a die hard D3 guy. My dad is GM to the end, has drove nothing but for 30+ yrs. However if you get the 3 in 4 that dies early you hate the D3. The same goes for imports.
The way I look at it I’d stick with the Toyota because I like the 95% odds vs. the 25% odds. I know someday I’m going to get a lemon (which is why I wait things out and lease at 0% at year end…if it’s a lemon I can walk after 3 yrs) from Toyota and I’ll switch to something else (guy I work with has had nothing but issues with his Toyota, and the parts are EXPENSIVE!!). Same goes for everyone.

Lubricating the tracks will not do anything for you on this one. This is a well known problem on these models. You have to replace the regulator. You can buy it without the motor. The cable usually frays or the cable burns into the plastic guides. Changing the regulator usually takes less than an hour.December 30, 2010 at 3:24 am #36245sierra2009 wrote:[quote:72a8f99e6c="PETRC"]I have a 2003 GMC sierra, 4X4 extended cab.
